1 William Street is a Brisbane City landmark, and the tallest commercial tower in Brisbane, it was built to be the new home of the QLD Government and Public Service. The building was the catalyst for the redevelopment of the entire George Street Precinct. Hymix working in partnership with East Coast Concrete Constructions were entrusted with supplying over 58,000m3 of HyFlow concrete over 30 months to this project. Aiding to the build of a new skyline landmark in the Brisbane CBD is a proud accomplishment of Hymix.
The magnificent 43 levels, $650 million office tower was designed and constructed by Multiplex to allow 360-degree views through a uniquely designed core, with floor plates ranging from 1,900m3 – 2,100m3. Understanding a project and the vision for architectural features is a strength of Hymix, taking the time to appreciate the design elements allows Hymix to put forward the best solution, to achieve an amazing result.
The requirements
The sophisticated design and modern features were the pinnacle of this project. There were significant challenges in the design, including a huge atrium feature, which required the need for 10 concrete columns ranging from 18m – 21m in length and almost 2m in diameter to be poured in 100mpa concrete. The sheer scale and finish achieved through the use of HyFlow provides 1 William Street a visually imposing entrance.
The results
The complexities of this project in regard to the amount of high strength concrete required and the height it was required to be pumped, had rarely been seen in the South East Queensland market. Multiplex had confidence that Hymix could supply a high strength, superworkable product that was capable of being pumped 40 storeys. Hymix conducted multiple trials in real life scenarios in partnership with East Coast Concrete Constructions to perfect the mix. A joint effort by all, this unique building has changed the Brisbane skyline.

Green Star design rating
Through the use of our Greenstar mixes, there was a reduction of GP content, and by using recycled water in our concrete mixes, Hymix were proud to contribute to the project being awarded a 5 Star Green Star design rating.

PCYC – Dee Why
Prime Construction, a long established highly regarded construction company were tasked with this challenging project. Commencing work in late 2015, the architectural features of the PCYC saw over 3000m3 of concrete placed. Custom mixes of HyLite and HyShine were included in the project and mixes comprising of Post Tension and Off Form concrete were utilised for the other design elements.
