Prime Construction engaged Hymix as their concrete supplier on a new project in Dee Why, constructing a modern take on a PCYC Northern Beaches. Commencing work in late 2015, the architectural features of this indoor sports centre project saw over 3000m3 of concrete placed. Custom mixes of HyLite and HyShine were included in the project, and mix comprising of post-tension and off-form concrete were utilised for the other design elements.
Strong lines of open and transparent communication between all parties were integral to the project. Many on-site meetings between Prime Construction, Conzpac (the concrete placers/pump) and Hymix occurred to ensure each feature was carefully planned and mapped out, as some of the structures were challenging shapes and forms.
The requirements
Prime Construction, a long established and highly regarded construction company were tasked with this challenging project. Bringing on Hymix as their supplier ensured that the high expectations around supply and concrete specifications would be met and successfully managed. Best work practices are high on the priority list for any Prime supplier and Hymix’s operational and excellence in safety aligned perfectly with this.
The results
While the project encountered some major delays due to design changes, particularly around the roof structure, the main concrete components progressed to schedule. Every design feature was distinctive to the PCYC and Hymix are delighted with the role they played in this project. It is important to note one of the main concerns throughout the project was the surrounding residential unit blocks and the impact the larger concrete pours would have on the residents. This was managed successfully with minimal disruption.
